  • AE: Abu Dhabi takes lead in MENA’s smart city race: Study

    Abu Dhabi’s ranking is credited to the emirate’s infrastructure and digital services available to residents

    Abu Dhabi has been named the smartest city in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for the year 2023 in the IMD Smart City Index released by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD).

    The study, which IMD developed with the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), surveyed 120 residents in 118 cities worldwide.

  • AE: Abu Dhabi to collaborate with Singapore companies on smart city pilot projects

    Singapore companies are collaborating with Abu Dhabi entities including Adnoc, the Department of Municipalities and Transport and MMasdar City to develop smart city pilot projects in Abu Dhabi.

    The six companies, including MDesign Solutions, Daily Life Renewable Energy, Biodsg and Graymatics, among others, will work on pilot projects such as transforming street lighting as well as increasing the energy efficiency of Al Dannah City buildings, according to a statement from Abu Dhabi Investment Office (Adio) on Wednesday.

    The days of having to take along scores of paper copies of official documents to register your business in Abu Dhabi will soon be a thing of the past.

    Until now, business people have had to visit the offices of Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (DED) clutching original copies of utility registration certificates, letters of no objection from police and other authorities, and various other documents.

    But an electronic system being launched by the DED will mean companies can provide all the necessary documents in electronic format. Either a flash drive or CD will be accepted.

    The new entrants included 56 federal government entities and seven local government entities.

    Sixty three government entities have completed their e-linking process with the UAE Electronic Federal Network, FEDnet, developed by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority,TRA, three years ago to provide high speed connectivity and integration between the various e-government systems of UAE government departments.

    Abu Dhabi: The e-ports project committee of the Ministry of Interior held a meeting headed by Major General Ahmad Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police and Chairman of the Victims Affairs Office. It discussed the planned installation of electronic portals in all airports in the country. The first is in operation at Abu Dhabi International Airport and will be followed by the busiest airports.

    268 public schools across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi are all set to benefit from high-speed advanced Internet connectivity as the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), in collaboration with Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) announces the completion of an ICT Infrastructure and Technical Support Project.

    The Dh330 million project aims to improve the quality of learning outcomes across schools by integrating the latest technology and offering both wire and wireless high-speed Internet connectivity.

  • AE: Abu Dhabi: Capital rolls out e-kiosks for municipal transactions

    The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City (ADM) has launched a self-operated electronic kiosk service, enabling customers to process their transactions on the spot through various service delivery points, including customer service centres at the municipality’s head office, external centres, shopping malls and petrol stations.

    According to a statement sent by the civic body on Sunday, this step has been taken to provide customer-centric services by providing them access to the kiosks in places that are easier for them to visit.

    The new digital kiosks will enable customers to process their transactions through self-service interactive screens built at multi-faceted high technical specifications capable of facilitating transactions quickly.

    By the end of this year, all services delivered by the Ministry of Interior will become e-services, a senior official said yesterday.

    The ministry’s Smartphone platform provides an integrated comprehensive link to the ministry’s website through the Unified Login mechanism (username and password) to obtain services from any channel of electronic communication, said Major General Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police.

    Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) has installed the largest number of Internet access points in the Middle East in a single project connecting 268 public schools in Abu Dhabi to support iClass, e-learning and other IT applications.

    The Dhs330-million ICT infrastructure and technical support project provides high speed fibre optic connectivity for teachers and staff to improve the quality of education through use of advanced ICT services, officials said.

    Etisalat and Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) have announced the completion of this ICT project, which installed more than 13,864 Internet access points in these 268 schools in the UAE capital.

    The number of users of e-services on the Zakat Fund’s website has exceeded one million for the first time since its launch. The number increased by 200,000 in only two months, reaching 1,063,705 till Saturday evening.

    The rise in the website’s visitor turnout reflects the success of the new e-services offered by the Fund, which has contributed to increasing the number of Zakat providers, which in turn has resulted in an overwhelming escalation in the volume of the Fund’s resources year after year.
