The Pengerang Smart City Action Plan 2030 is currently being drawn up to ensure sustainable development in the municipality.

Pengerang Municipal Council (MPP) president Fizwan Mohd Rashidi said a research proposal for the action plan was presented to Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Abd Muttalib during the latter’s working visit to Pengerang.

“Development plans include the implementation of smart traffic lights and smart closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, namely in Bandar Penawar and Sungai Rengit.

“We have also informed the Deputy Minister about our efforts to implement a smart waste management system in our area,” he said, adding that the plan was in line with the council’s smart city and low-carbon society initiative.

He said the action plan consisted of development strategies to create a holistic smart city.

On another matter, Fizwan said MPP would continue working with Health Ministry, National Unity Ministry and Housing and Local Government Ministry to run the Covid-19 Community Vaccine Mobilisation (Movak) programme.

He said the programme would be managed by the Kota Tinggi District Office and Kota Tinggi Health Department to ensure no one was left out.

“This is part of the government’s outreach programme that started in July this year, where the department mobilised two Movak buses to several locations in Pengerang.

“Our main target are the elderly and those living far from vaccination centres or have no means of transportation to get there,” he said.

Fizwan said areas where the vaccination programme had been conducted were Kampung Sedili Kechil, Taman Bayu Damai, Tanjung Serindit, Sungai Rengit and Bandar Mas.

“It was also conducted in rural areas such as Teluk Sengat, Felda Tunggal, Felda Kledang, Felda Adela, Felda Sening, Felda Air Tawar and Felda Semenchu.”

He said that at least 1,000 doses were administered in each location.

Aside from the mobile vaccination programme, he said the council would also continue with its food aid initiative to ease the burden of the needy.

The council also provided 11 petty traders with licence to operate at Laman Selera Desaru Utama Kabin (LSDUK) as part of its social responsibility programme.

“Besides that, we conducted a clean-up at Jalan FT92 Kota Tinggi-Pengerang as part of our clean city campaign,” Fizwan added.
