Urban development i-City in Shah Alam is looking to start a fully autonomous bus service.

The driverless bus service is expected to start in 2024 once the LRT3 project is completed and operational.

The automated shuttle is to enhance i-City’s smart city status as a transit-oriented development and provide greater connectivity to the various public transportation points.

To further enhance the smart city infrastructure, i-City is in talks with Huawei Malaysia.

It is already being powered by Huawei’s 400G-capable network connectivity.

Huawei has experience in smart city solutions and expertise in data centres.

The tech giant is primed to accelerate i-City’s roll out of other smart features, which include expanding into artificial intelligence (AI)-powered services and the deployment of 5G technology.

The autonomous buses are expected to be electric vehicles (EVs).

The shuttle services will connect the vital locations within the development like Central i-City Mall, DoubleTree by Hilton, CentralWalk, Mercu Maybank and theme park, ensuring a congestion-free traffic flow from the residential homes to its central business district as well as the i-City LRT3 station.

With the surge in the corporate population at Mercu Maybank, which includes Maybank with approximately 1,400 employees, Prudential, other multinational corporations and the growing residential population, those living or working in i-City will benefit from the extended public transport.

As i-City works towards becoming an integrated tech-centric smart city, it will be focused on driving innovation and adopting new technologies.

Such initiatives to provide quality management of i-City’s public facilities will provide a better quality of life and improve social wellbeing.

Its latest residential development BeCentral, offers smart features such as face recognition, and AI lockset, will also benefit from all the new initiatives.

Located next to Mercu Maybank, Central i-City Mall and DoubleTree by Hilton, it is now open for pre-launch sales.

Also in the pipeline is the set up of a new data centre park.

The developer has approval to build two more data centres of 100,000 sq ft each, targeting multinational corporations, financial companies and information technology firms.

Currently, the Tier 3-certified data centre in i-City is operating at full capacity.
