Senior Scientist in Department of Environment & Remote Sensing, Humayun Rashid has been chosen for national award on e-Governance project by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances Government of India.

The National e-Governance Award will be given to Rashid during the proceedings of the National Conference on e-Governance 2013 at Jaipur on February 11.

Rashid has received an invitation to receive the award by Kavita Garg Deputy Secretary e-Governance Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions.

Nearly 650 projects were evaluated by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances through Centre for Good Governance, Hyderabad and subsequently the Department of Administrative Reforms. J&K State bagged the Award for its Project, “Measuring Physical Accessibility to Healthcare Network and Population Coverage Modeling in J&K State using Geo-informatics".

The team that worked on the project comprised Humayun Rashid as the Head-Principal Investigator, Majid Farooq, Gowhar Nasim, Muzamil Ahmad and Syed Asif.

“It was an innovative study carried out by mapping the existing health facility network in the State using Geo-information technology and generating scenarios using multiple parameters like impact of landscape features on the movement of patients, topography, physical barriers, road network, mode of transportation and direction of travel of patients across hilly terrain using geospatial modeling approach for the first time in the country,” Rashid said.
