Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated a permanent Aadhaar enrolment centre here on Wednesday.

He said around 4.77 crore (78 per cent) of the population has been covered under Aadhaar. The CM directed the officials to cover the rest of the population at the earliest.

The government has appointed a registrar under the e-governance scheme for this and clarified that Aadhaar with fingerprint impression cannot be forged or duplicated, the CM said.

“The government has opened Aadhaar centres in 872 Nadakacheris. It will be opened in all the 6,000 GPs along with 38 KarnatakaOne centres and 50 BengaluruOne centres,” he said.

Siddaramaiah distributed Aadhaar cards to seven people, including a transgender, mentioning the gender as other.

Siddaramaiah took a dig at private television channels, saying that they are trying to instil superstitious beliefs among people through their programmes and one should acquire rational education to judge whether such programmes are right or wrong.

“They are at it in the morning itself,” he said in an apparent reference to astrology programmes in local television channels.
