Thulasi, an application by Kerala Public Service Commission that enables one-time registration to automate recruitment process for the PSC, was on Wednesday awarded the CSI Valiant e-Governance Award instituted by the Computer Society of India - Trivandrum Chapter.

The award was instituted by the CSI Trivandrum Chapter on the occasion of its golden jubilee 'to recognise and benchmark e-Governance excellence across various departments under the theme - e-Governance Excellence for the Benefit of Common Man'.

Thulasi, developed in FOSS platform, is a single window for candidates to interact with KPSC helping them to create their profile, view the posts available based on the profile and check the status of their applications.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala presented Kerala PSC secretary Shaju George with the award that was instituted with the support of UAE-based Valiant Technologies Group LLC, International Centre for Free & Open Source Software (ICFOSS) and the Kerala Startup Mission.

Meanwhile, E-Treasury, an application by the Department of Treasuries has been chosen for the runner-up spot. With this app, the Treasury Department receives payment electronically any time of the day from citizens.

The e-Governance Sustenance Award was awarded to e-Transport by the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) for their continuous efforts in ensuring successful use of the application and also to ease services to the citizens.

"MVD was one of the first organisations in Kerala which implemented computerisation way back in the 1990s and continues to do so with the same enthusiasm, ” said awards committee chairman Satish Babu.

Two special jury awards were presented to Public Works Department’s 'PRICE - Project Implementation and Cost Estimation'and Kerala Water Authority’s e-Abacus (Enhanced Accounting, Billing and Collection Utility System).

PRICE is an application to estimate preparation and online approval for the work undertaken by the PWD. Meanwhile KWA's e-Abacus enables payment of water bills online.

IDEAS - Information and Data Exchange Advanced System by NIC, Kerala was recognised for their work on open source with the CSI-ICFOSS Open Source Award. The Kerala State IT Mission, meanwhile, won the e-Governance Promotion Award for its concerted efforts to reach out to people and promote various e-government initiatives of the government.

St Teresa's College economics department head Nirmala Padmanabhan was honoured with the e-Governance Promoter Award while Devika S of TKM College of Engineering, Soorya V Nair of Government Engineering College, Barton Hill; Ruhin Mary Saji of Sree Buddha College of Engineering, Alappuzha and Gowthan M of SCT College of Engineering, Pappanamcode were presented with the CSI Student Excellence Awards for academic performances.

IT Department principal secretary P H Kurian, KINFRA managing director G C Gopala Pillai, Kerala State IT Mission director K Mohammed Y Safirulla, Valiant Technologies chairman M Krishnamurthi, ICFOSS director and Kerala Start-up Mission CEO Jayasankar Prasad were present.
