The Chhattisgarh govt is using information and communications technology (ICT) services to bring the benefits of a connected society to all the residents of the state.

PM Narendra Modi announced the Digital India initiative to connect 2.5 lakh gram panchayats across india through high speed internet networks. The vision being to use technology to bring digital literacy to rural India, provide e-governance on-demand to citizens and develop a digital infrastructure to facilitate growth for the nation.

Some government organisations are already using the power of digitisation to provide better governance to the citizens.

The Chhattisgarh government is using information and communications technology (ICT) services to bring the benefits of a connected society to all the residents of the state. The Chhattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society was formed towards this end.

It is the state nodal agency for electronics, IT & ITeS and has undertaken projects with an aim of providing real time governance to all corners of the state.

Alex Paul Menon, Joint-Secretary IT, CEO CHiPs, says, "The major project undertaken is the city WiFi project where we have taken a lot of public WiFi hotspots. There is also a student life cycle management, which plans to run an end-to-end solution, the whole life cycle of a student right from the registration till the time he moves out. The other project is digital secretariat where we envisage a complete paperless office."

Similarly, the Madhya Pradesh Police is banking on digitization to maintain law and order across the state. Digital solutions helped them manage the over 50 million devotees that visited the recently concluded Ujjain Kumbh mela.

"We have a set up, an 80 seat call centre where any call on 100 from the state lands up here," says Anvesh Mangalam, Additional Director General of Police.

The police has also set up a CCTV based surveillance system which will be set up in 63 cities across the state in next two years.
