The State Government on Saturday asserted that the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) will be made operational in all police stations from March, 2017.

“The CCTNS has 10 major components. There has been significant progress in eight parameters. The system will be functional in all police stations by March, 2017,” Principal Secretary of Home Department Asit Tripathy told reporters after a high-level meeting here.

Stating that CCTNS is a comprehensive and integrated system for effective policing through e-Governance, Tripathy said all records on crimes and criminals will be available to all police stations in digitised form through intranet. All the 534 police stations will be connected to the State Police Headquarters. It will be easier to track the criminals from any part of the State and the country through the new system.

The meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi also discussed ways to accomplish the remaining three components at the earliest as the State Government has decided to make the system functional in all police stations by March 31 next year, Tripathy said.

The Chief Secretary directed Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh to make suitable inhouse arrangements for deriving maximum benefits out of the system, particularly in matters of investigation of crime, expeditious tracking, prosecution and enforcement.

He further directed the DGP to prepare a list of the services to be delivered online through CCTNS and put in place required IT applications for the purpose. The Centre had approved an action plan of Rs 49.76 crore for the CCTNS project and released the fund to the State.

The Government has so far utilised 90 per cent of the Central assistance. Among others, Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan, senior officers from departments of Home and IT and OCAC participated in the discussion.
