The West Bengal State data centre that has completed five years of its 24 hours operations by hosting several departmental applications will have an upgraded infrastructure.

The state government had set up the data centre in the year 2009-2010 under the national e-governance plan to facilitate the hosting of IT services for different government departments.

According to government officials, the present infrastructure of the data centre needs to be upgraded keeping in mind the growing needs of various government departments. The state information technology and electronic department has initiated the process to expand an upgrade the data centre with latest technologies, which includes having a robust and secure cloud computing platform for seamless maintenance and management of huge government data.

It has also been decided that all applications hosted in the data centre would be migrated into the proposed new infrastructure by December next year. There are 37 departmental applications that are hosted in the data centre. The cost to upgrade the infrastructure of the data centre will be around Rs 57 crore that will be fully implemented in the next five years.
