Prime Minister Narendra Modi's forthcoming visit to Singapore will see India and the city-state signing an agreement for cooperation in personnel management and public administration.
A meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister on Wednesday approved the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Singapore on Cooperation in the field of Personnel Management and Public Administration.
Modi will visit Singapore from May 31 to June 2. He will meet Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong apart from delivering the keynote address at the Shangri La Dialogue on June 1.
The proposed MoU, which is likely to be inked after Modi-Lee meeting, is aimed at improving the current system of governance, particularly in the areas of workforce, workplace and jobs, public service delivery, human resource management, public sector reform, leadership and talent development as well as e-governance and digital government in India with the support of Singapore.
The MoU will provide a framework for cooperation between India and Singapore in the field of public administration and governance reforms, according to an official press-release issued in New Delhi.
“It aims at achieving excellence in public administration, good governance and public service reform, which in turn, would ensure and promote greater public accountability,” the government stated after the approval of the Cabinet.
“It also aims to bring about innovative best practices, so as to achieve excellence in public administration in the context of improving online public service delivery.”
The Cabinet on Wednesday also approved the signing of another MoU between New Delhi and Ankara on trade in poppy seeds to ensure quick and transparent processing for import of poppy seeds from Turkey to India.
