Punjab Transport Department has completed second phase of the project regarding computerisation of departmental work. Besides, Punjab has also achieved distinction of being the pioneer state to successfully implement the two softwares — SAARTHI 4.0 and VAHAN 4.0 —which were prepared for the facilitation of vehicle owners and vehicle drivers.

State Transport Minister Aruna Chaudhary on Wednesday said all the 11 Regional Transport Authority (RTA) offices, 79 SDM offices and 32 Automated Driving Test Tracks have been brought under the ambit of e-Governance.

“In accordance with the directions of the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, the Transport Department has taken the initiative under e-Governance project in order to provide services to the people in easy and hassle-free manner which have come to fruition now with implementation across the length and breadth of the state,” she said.

Chaudhary said that the services provided to the vehicle owners under VAHAN 4.0 include new registration of vehicles, renewal of old registration, filing tax online of the vehicles and permit of the vehicles.

SAARTHI 4.0 software includes learning driving licences of vehicle drivers, preparing new driving licences and renewal of old ones and commercial driving licences, besides providing every bit of information to the people of the state through SMS and internet, said the Minister.

Chaudhary congratulated the officers of the Transport Department on the successful implementation of e-Governance project and hoped for transparent and citizen friendly services to the people.
