Application for certificates can be made round-the-clock

People who were dependent on e-seva centres or common service centres for electronically submitting their applications for getting basic documents have been empowered to do the process at home on computer or mobile phone, thanks to the introduction of citizen portal of e-sevai services under the national e-governance plan.

While 3-district portal was providing 53 services, e-sevai portion was giving 63 services.

However, these portals were being operated through common service centres. (CSC) “In Virudhunagar district, we have 419 common services centres. People had to physically come to the CSC to avail themselves of the services. These centres had limited working hours - from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. only,” e-District Manager-I, R. Rajani Devi said.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, on July 2, launched the open portal www.tnesevai.tn.gov.in/citizen. Under the programme, the CSCs were issuing income certificate, nativity certificate, community certificate, deserted woman certificate and first graduate certificate. Now, 15 more services have been added to it.

Hitherto, only the CSCs were provided with the login. Now, the login has been opened to the common man. “Anyone can register themselves with the portal on submitting their name, Aadhaar number, district, taluk, e-mail id and mobile phone number. Upon registering themselves, people can login and make the submission for relevant certificates on their own,” Ms. Rajani Devi said.

People need not depend on the CSC alone. Besides, the citizens’ login gave them the flexibility of using the facility round-the-clock.

People can use their desktop computer, laptop or mobile phone with Internet connection to login.

Similarly, they can also download the unified mobile application for new-age Governance (UMANG) developed by National e-Governance Division (NeGD) for the same. Initially, people can use UMANG only for seeking community, nativity and income certificates.

The open portal and UMANG application will help people apply for certificates round-the-clock from any part of the world and facilitate easy access to services of the State government.
