India and Russia will collaborate in digital economy and explore areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and e-health, Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Friday.
He said the inherent strengths of India and Russia in software and hardware provide growth avenues for mutual benefits.
"Digital Economy is a new area of vibrant cooperation. It is especially relevant for our goal of digital inclusion. Given Russia's expertise, it is a natural partnership for India and Russia," Prasad said, sharing the progress of inclusive growth through the Digital India programme that would take India towards a trillion dollar digital economy. The minister was addressing the India-Russia Business Summit on growth opportunities in Digital Economy on the margins of the 19th Annual India-Russia Summit.
He described India's relationship with Russia as one of "trust, understanding and reciprocity" and said that the two sides have a common worldview on a variety of issues and the ties have remained immune from the political changes and other differences. "Indeed, it has acquired a new momentum because of personal chemistry and understanding between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin," Prasad said. A joint statement issued after after bilateral talks said the two sides agreed to further enhance their cooperation in the field of Information and Communications Technology, particularly in Electronics System Design & Manufacturing, Software development, Supercomputing, E-Government, Public Services Delivery, Network Security, Security in the use of Information and Communication Technologies, Fin-tech and Internet of Things.
Chandrajit Banerjee, CII director general, said the two countries need to explore cooperation in the startup space to foster entrepreneurship development in both countries.
