Indore’s ranking under smart city project has gone down by two positions in the last two months, thanks to delay in release of funds from the state. The city has been on fifth position under the ranking released by Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for September.

The city was earlier at third position in the country in July for the progress on projects it took up under Smart City initiative with an overall score of 73.93 marks.

The ranking is released by the ministry of housing and urban affairs every week on the basis of various parameters such as total number of projects taken up, projects completed, work order issued on projects, fund received from centre & state, and its utilization etc. However, later in August, Indore’s position came down to fourth. Officials with Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL) blamed delay in release of funds from the state for this decline.

“We had been able to improve our rankings in the list of best performing smart cities under Centre’s Smart City mission from 24th position to 3rd position within a year, that too with utilization of just 60 per cent funds. We could have hit the top place, but delay in release of funds has affected the overall performance of Indore Smart city,” pointed a senior official.

ISCDl’s chief executive officer Aditi Garg said that they have requested the state government to release an upfront Rs60 crore for proper implementation of existing projects. “We are expecting an early release of funds soon,” she added.
