National Smart Cities Mission is a renewal program for urban areas by the Indian government with the aim to develop smart cities in the country to make them citizen-friendly. The Union Ministry of Urban Development implements this program in collaboration with the state governments.
This mission aims to develop an area within a city as a model area based on a particular development plan. Cities are selected based on the Smart Cities Challenge. Each city creates a Special Purpose Vehicle, headed by a full-time CEO, to implement and look into the mission.
