On the heels of completion of a slew of projects, Bhopal smart city has once again regained the numero uno spot in the ranking of Smart Cities Mission of the Union government, according to a Bhopal Smart City Development Corporation Limited (BSCDCL) press release issued n Saturday.

“Bhopal has reached the first position in the country due to smart city’s teamwork. We are regularly reviewing works. Efforts are being made to complete the works of Smart City Mission on time and with quality,” said BSCDCL CEO Aditya Singh.

Union ministry of housing and urban affairs released a ranking of 100 smart cities on Friday. Bhopal was in first place, Varanasi in second while Surat came third. Meanwhile, Indore slipped to seventh place. A new method of ranking was adopted for the assessment. Work completed, tendering process and fund utilisation are among the new parameters.

Bhopal’s top rank comes days after the inauguration of a number of projects including smart park project, arch bridge, smart road, heritage conservation project (Sadar Manzil), Boulevard Street and other projects under the area based development (ABD) initiative.
