The Nashik Municipal Smart City Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) has set up over 400 CCTV cameras, which are likely to be operational by the first week of January next year.

Earlier, the smart city company had set a deadline of December 31, but the deadline could not be met due to some technical reasons.

“We have already started the installation of CCTV cameras at the locations identified by the NMC and police administration. So far, we have installed around 400 CCTV cameras at 80 locations across the city, which include important roads, chowks and traffic signals that will enable the city police and NMC to keep a tab on the movement of the vehicles and road users,” said Sumant More, the CEO of NMSCDCL.

The smart city cell has appointed an agency that has already started working to integrate the CCTV cameras with the Command & Control Room (CCR), which has been set up at NMC’s divisional office at Panchavati.

There are 26 monitors at the CCR that would be manned by smart city cell personnel. The project cost for the installation of the CCTV cameras along with the CCR is Rs 164 crore.

Under this project, 800 CCTV cameras would be set up in various parts of the city and over 400 gadgets have already been set up. The remaining ones would be set up by March next year. A giant screen and 25 small screens have been set up in the control room.

A team of eight operators will man the control room 24X7. The CCTV cameras will send alert signals automatically if there are traffic jams, water logging, the gathering of people etc.

NMSCDCL officials said the CCTV cameras are to be installed at around 335 locations, which include traffic signals, road squares, major chowks etc. While the NMC administration has identified 110 locations, the city police have identified 225 location The CCTV cameras are being installed under the smart and safe Nashik project.
