Bhagalpur Smart City Limited (BSCL) will soon commission smart e-toilets in different municipal wards of Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation (BMC) under the Smart City Mission (SCM) project.

Officials said installation of e-toilets at public places and creating awareness among the residents to use it is being done to promote the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The e-toilets are self-contained, self-cleaning, user-friendly, unmanned, automated and remotely monitored toilet pods installed in public places, which will operate on insertion of coins.

In the first phase, 25 e-toilets at 12 strategic locations under BMC will be installed. The selected areas include:

  • Lajpat Park (2 units),
  • Tilkamanji (2 units),
  • Sandy’s Compound / Kutchery Chowk area (3 units),
  • Burhanath (2 units),
  • Ghanta Ghar-Kutchery Chowk Road (2 units),
  • Kutchery-Tilkamanjhi Road (2 units),
  • Kotwali Chowk (2 units),
  • Adampur Chowk (2 units),
  • Vivekanand road-Sharda Sangeet Sadan (2 units),
  • near Bhagalpur Railway Station (2 units),
  • near Bihar State Road Transport bus depot (2 units) and
  • Koyala depot-Khanjarpur (2 units).

BSCL sources said that a sum of Rs 2.6 crore is likely to be spent for setting up the 25 e-toilets for which financial bid is being finalized. Infrastructure like smart water meter and water supply system, soak-pit, septic tank, automatic electronic door system, auto flushing and auto cleaning, electricity connection, smart electrical and motorized devices are also being added for the functioning of smart e-toilets.

Pankaj Kumar, public relation officer (PRO) of BSCL said that the installation processes of 6-8 e-toilets have been completed and very soon it will be commissioned. "Rest of the e-toilets will also be installed soon as detailed architectural design including civil and plan layouts have been completed and works are in final stages,” he said.

He added: “After the commissioning of the smart e-toilets, the service provider will take care of the maintenance.”
