Transforming Government since 2001

In a significant stride towards transforming Sultanpur Lodhi into a smart city, Punjab's Local Bodies Minister Dr Ravjot Singh on Friday inaugurated a four MLD (million liters per day) capacity Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), costing Rs 8.5 crore. This marks Dr Ravjot’s first development project inauguration since taking office, which he hailed as a momentous occasion dedicated to the residents of this holy city.

The newly-inaugurated STP is set to serve the water treatment needs of nearly 25,000 residents and will also provide treated water for irrigation purposes across 55 acres. During the inauguration, Dr Ravjot emphasized the Punjab Government's commitment to the holistic development of Sultanpur Lodhi, envisioning its potential as a key destination on the international religious tourism circuit under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

In addition to the STP launch, the Minister reviewed the progress of ongoing smart city initiatives with local leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal and AAP leader Sajjan Singh Cheema. He directed the officials to expedite the completion of several projects, including the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), three smart schools, and the four-laning of roads connecting Sultanpur Lodhi to Dadwindi and Mundi Morh, spanning nearly 25 kilometers. These developments are expected to facilitate easier access for devotees and alleviate traffic in the Malwa region.

Dr Ravjot also urged the officials to ensure that road construction within the city is completed by November 5, in time for the parkash purab of Guru Nanak Dev. Prior to the inauguration, he paid his respects at Gurudwara Shri Ber Sahib and Nirmal Kutia, where a contingent of Punjab Police honored him with a guard of honour.
