A delegation from the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs has visited the General Information Authority (GIA) to discuss how to take advantage of the cloud computing services GIA is offering to federal government entities.

The visiting delegation included Jamal Maddi, the IT director, Mohamed Ibrahim Al Saigal, the acting director, Government Communications Department and Fouad Mohammed Nabih, the system analyst. The meeting was attended by Ahmed Ismail, the chief information consultant and Manal Al Affad, E-Services Coordinator at the General Information Authority.

During the meeting, the GIA team briefed them about Cloud Computing and the steps taken by the GIA to provide cloud computing services to federal entities in the UAE which will result in substantial financial savings for government entities. Adopting cloud computing saves government entities the cost of paying for a lot of licence fees, hardware and software programmes.

Developing the website of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs was also discussed during the meeting.

Salem Khamis Al Shair Al Suwaidi, the director general of the GIA, said: “Providing cloud computing services to government entities in the UAE is in line with the UAE vision 2021 which stipulates that we are united in responsibility and in knowledge. I am confident that adopting cloud computing will enhance the pace of electronic transformation at the federal level.”

“The GIA has adopted the Cloud Services initiative in its e-Government strategy for the next three years. We will provide many cloud services to federal ministries, authorities and councils. If applied in a comprehensive and correct manner, Cloud Computing will accelerate the pace of e-Transformation at the federal level in the UAE,” he added.

The cloud Services offered by GIA includes electronic hosting, file management and database systems, Intranet portals, e-mail service and meeting management system.
