Jordan has won the Outstanding Achievement Award for the 2018 Best Smart Identification Card (eID), recently announced at the High Security Printing (EMEA) Conference in the Polish capital of Warsaw.

The award was received by Director-General of the Civil Status and Passports Department, Fawaz Al-Shahwan, during his participation in the annual conference held between February 19 to 21.

Arab and foreign governments, major companies, security document manufacturers and many central banks and other banks, participated in the gathering, which focused on government-specified and issued documents.

In a speech at the conference, Al-Shahwan said Jordan began issuing Jordanian nationality legislation in 1921 with the establishment of the first passports office, pointing out that Jordan does not live in isolation from global developments, as King Abdullah attaches great importance to the e-government and announced the Digital Jordan 2020 Initiative.

The government has attached attention to the development of its services, which began with the Civil Status Department, Al-Shahwan noted, adding that the work started on the smart identification card, which was issued with high security specifications.
