The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) opened its Technology Empowerment for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (Tech4ED) center in this town on July 31.

Ifugao Provincial DICT Team Lead Donad Trinidad said that this is the second Tech4ED center to be established in the province. The first is in the municipality of Aguinaldo which was put up last January.

Prior to the opening of the Tech4ED Center at the Municipal Tourism building here, DICT Project Development Officer for Technology Edison Agawid provided the training to five people who will be responsible for its management and operation.

The Tech4ED Center will serve as a self-sustaining, shared facility providing access to Information, Communications Technology (ICT)-enabled services and relevant content, and act as a conduit for the efficient delivery of government and other services as a potent tool for the empowerment and participation of the unserved and underserved communities in development.

Its project components are content development, capability building, advocacy and promotion with end objectives of providing and developing innovative ICT-enabled services and content for the socio-economic development of communities especially the unserved and underserved.

This project evolved from the Philippine Community eCenter Program which is a national digital inclusion initiative establishing eCenters that provide critical e-government and ICT-enabled services in communities with minimal or no access to information and government services.
