Cluj-Napoca City Hall will transform a street from Marasti neighborhood, after a pilot project, in a smart street that provides not only more space for pedestrians but also high tech facilities.

The street will include Electric Mobile Loadable Banks, state-of-the-art LED lighting poles that incorporate WIFI systems for internet in public space, as well as charging stations for electric bicycles or scooters. In addition, 50 trees will be planted.

Parking spaces will be replaced with green spaces and benches, and space for cars will drop three times after rehabilitation.

According to the City Hall representatives, if the neighborhoods accept the transformation of the street, the project will be extended to other areas of the city.

In Cluj-Napoca, one of the first Romanian cities which adopted the smart city strategy, was launched the idea to build a metro network, in time.

According to the mayor, Emil Boc, the city hall is willing to pay EUR 2.2 million for feasibility studies, to be ready to build a metro network, because the city will reach one million people in 15 to 30 years, and risks to be completely blocked in 10 years.
