All the planning is complete for making the first IT city in Karachi, said Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

Addressing a session on ‘Digital Business Networks and How to attract Foreign IT Companies to Invest in Pakistan’ on Friday, he said, “We have completed all the planning and are soon going to decide the land where the project will be executed. We are in talks with Korea to build IT City in Karachi.”

“Year 2019 will be an IT revolution for Pakistan.”

He said that Pakistan wants to keep pace with the changing world and for that the government is going to introduce e-governance, which will be a breakthrough in the biggest social problem of Pakistan; corruption. With the right use of IT we can reduce poverty in Pakistan and accelerate its rate of progress, the minister remarked. He shared that to make Pakistan a digitalised country, the IT ministry is working actively.

The smart phone is a great tool to proliferate digitalisation in the country and for that purpose the government is striving to bring handset production in Pakistan. Once mobile phones are produced locally, the prices will reduce and hence a larger number of people will be able to own a smartphone.

Also speaking on the occasion, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) IT Adviser Umer Farooq said that the last government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had introduced the IT policy in K-P, in which overseas investors were given importance.

This time PTI will make federal level IT policy taking overseas investors into consideration, he shared.
