Huawei and United Development Company (UDC) signed an agreement to deploy Huawei smart campus system at another UDC development, Gewan Island. The agreement builds on a partnership UDC signed last year with Huawei to enhance The Pearl Island’s Smart City features. The deal would see Huawei design and integrate innovative solutions at the iconic development, including Wi-Fi networks, an intelligent command and control centre, and an advanced data centre facility.

The agreement was signed at Milipol Qatar 2022, the international homeland security and civil defence event from May 24 to 26 in Doha, where Huawei participated as the diamond sponsor. At its booth, Huawei showcased its leading cybersecurity and Smart City technologies, including a Smart City IOC (Intelligent operation centre), a centralised platform that offers a visualized panorama of the city, provides city running status, insights into city risks, and makes comprehensive decisions based on data and information. Visitors also experienced Huawei’s full-stack smart education solution, including intelligent connectivity as a foundation, a safe campus, a hybrid learning smart classroom, and data governance scenarios as online education accelerates post-COVID.

Hussain Akbar Al Baker, UDC Executive Director Commercial said, “The Pearl and Gewan Islands were designed as sustainable, state-of-the-art destinations that offer residents a very high quality of life, powered by the latest smart city solutions. The partnership with Huawei enables us to deliver on this promise while building developments that showcase what is possible when innovative urban design meets advanced technologies.”

Liam Zhao, President of Huawei Gulf North, said, “The UN estimates 70% of the world’s population will live in urban centres by 2050. To accommodate this growth requires we rethink how we build our cities. Digital solutions have been shown to improve urban centres by reducing pollution, better waste management, less traffic congestion and other improvements in the quality of life. Our agreement with UDC brings our proven Smart City technologies that will help transform The Pearl and Gewan Islands into the most innovative and sustainable neighbourhoods in the region.”

The Pearl Island is one of the largest real-estate developments in the Middle East, sitting on 4 million sqm of reclaimed land. Gewan Island is UDC’s latest world class residential, commercial and entertainment project located adjacent to The Pearl Island.

Huawei’s partnership with UDC reflects its leading position in smart city and smart campus technology, powered by a cutting-edge combination of cloud computing, IoT, big data analytics, and AI. Having built more than 160 Smart Cities in over 100 countries and regions, Huawei is one of the few players in the industry to provide a complete set of ICT solutions with ‘cloud-pipe-device’ synergy, leading the way in the integration of physical and digital worlds.
