Brussels residents and visitors will soon be able to share their opinions and recommendations on the city in three of the capital’s districts through the application "Brussels By Us." The Regional State Secretary for Digital Transition Bianca Debaets (CD&V), the Computer Center for the Brussels Region (CIRB) and VUB university’s SMIT research laboratory presented Friday their citizen participation project.

The Northern District, the pedestrian sector and the university U-Square site, on the Ixelles barracks grounds, are the three districts elected for testing. Each site has its own features, public and challenges.

he Smart City project will be launched in April with the setting up of ten relay antennas in strategic locations. Local residents, tourists, commuters and merchants who have downloaded the app will either receive a notification when close to the transmitter, or they can scan the QR code from the antenna. They will be asked short and concrete questions, and invited to share their view on the neighborhood through their answers. The most popular answers will then appear on their screen.

"Brussels By Us” intends to give more visibility to the ideas Brussels residents have for their neighborhood. I am convinced that everyone has concrete and innovative proposals to improve living in their neighborhood," Bianca Debaets concluded.

The regional authorities have allocated 150,000 euros for the Smart City project.
