Minster of ICT and National Guidance, Hon Frank Tumwebaze has said only through improved technology, will Uganda be able to fight and defeat corruption in government.

Speaking Friday at the opening of the MTN Expo at Kololo Independence grounds, the minster applauded the high level of innovatiion which MTN has exhibited in the 20years of its operation in Uganda.

“Tell those lamenting about bribery and corruption to advocate for digital economies. If we get e-Government services where everything is done online and there is no human contact, there won’t be bribes and corruption,” the minister said.

With e-government fully operational, Tumwebaze said no government officials will get the courage to ask for bribe, for fear of being traced.

The minister applauded MTN for extending their services in various parts of the country and asked them extend it deeper.

“I thank MTN for investing a lot in improving network to the required standard, innovation and turning Uganda into digital country.

MTN CEO Mr. Wim Vanhellepute appreciated the President of Uganda and the cabinet for offering them an opportunity 20years back to start their operations in the country as well as the recent renewal of their contract.

He added that MTN’s dream is to use technology to transform the Ugandan economy from cash into a cashless one.

He further assured the government that the telecom is fully committed to follow the new government Broad band policy

The four day event is part of the celebrations for MTN’s 20 years in Uganda
