Residents are slowly warming to the idea that they can now renew their driver’s licences online.

The initiative, which came onstream on January 1, forms part of the Antigua & Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP’s) e-government platform.

Acting General Manager of the Antigua & Barbuda Transport Board (ABTB) Hubert Jarvis said a few people have registered and are utilising the system.

“It’s up and running and mostly the younger people who have their computers are dealing with it,” Jarvis said.

He told OBSERVER media that, for the time being, users are only able to make minor changes to their licenses.

“You can make changes such as spelling errors, change of address and other minor modifications; those wishing to use a new photograph will have to visit our office,” the acting GM said.

To access the programme, clients have to first log on to www.ab.gov.ag, which the government has dubbed the “Citizens Portal”.

They are then required to fill out a form with their licence details, do the necessary changes and pay for the new card.

Individuals are only able to pay for the renewal initially using Sugapay; however, Jarvis said they will be soon be able to use Mastercard and at a later date, Visa.
