The Executive Committee for e-Government of GCC will launch a portal for common services of member countries and set up a link to connect them by next month.

An initial list of services to be included in the portal and latest developments on the link were discussed in a meeting in Doha yesterday, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reports.

The project aims to exchange information and provide common services, said Hasan Al Shayad, Assistant Secretary-General for e-Government Programme at the Ministry of Information and Technology.

The project is scheduled to be launched in the ministerial meeting of e-Government of GCC in March in Doha, he added.

The link is ready, infrastructure has been mobilised and necessary legal procedures are being made to launch the project.

Services to be available on the portal are those provided by the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Environment.

Authorities will coordinate to provide services on the portal and later services will be updated and more be added.

GCC citizens and expatriates can avail themselves of services on the portal like customs, those related to setting up business and companies, tenders, said Ali bin Saleh Al Suma, Director-General of e-Services in Saudi Arabia.

Services of the Traffic Department and transportation will be also available on the portal, he added.

Experiences of Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in this regard were also discussed. The three countries have such a link, said Abdullatif Al Sari, Head, IT Section, Kuwait.
