The company first launched the technology in 2018 and it’s taken a while to enter Australia despite having a key support presence there.

Console Connect, the software-defined connectivity platform from PCCW Global, has been launched into the Australian market. Console Connect competes against similar interconnetion technology from the likes of Megaport, Equinix and PacketFabric.

Customers can now use Console Connect in multiple data centres in Sydney, Perth and Brisbane. PCCW Global is the international operating division of HKT, the Hong Kong telecoms provider.

The network-as-a-service platform is fully integrated with the world’s leading cloud, SaaS and IX providers, including Google Cloud, AWS, IBM Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud, Alibaba, Tencent and NAVER Cloud.

Customers on the platform can purchase access ports in 128 leading on-net data centres throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, North and South America, Asia and now Australia.

The automated Console Connect fabric is underpinned by PCCW Global’s Tier-1 IP backbone and one of the largest MPLS networks in the world, spanning more than 160 countries and 3,000 cities.

The technology enables users to instantly self-provision fully protected, uncontended, layer 2 connectivity on-demand worldwide, with flexible durations from one day to one year, all priced on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Services can be turned on in a few clicks between, and among, customer access ports or to multiple clouds, SaaS/IoT partners and IXs that have already interconnected with the platform globally.

Michael Glynn, vice president of digital automated innovation at PCCW Global, said: “This marks our 40th country on the platform and Australia is also the home of our Console Connect Automation Software team, with 50-plus software development engineers who are based in Brisbane.”
