How to promote sustainable mobility with services and tools, for people and businesses.

Anyone who lives in a city wants to see reductions in pollution, respect for the environment, more fluid mobility, an increase in urban spaces, a drop in accidents, lower costs and more opportunities to receive accurate information on traffic and public transportation. All of these figure among the goals of sustainable mobility, a modern, smart and advanced way of conceiving of transport and mobility.

This is why LifeGate has created Mobility Revolution, an initiative to raise public awareness on sustainable mobility including projects, services and tools to get information and orient one’s mobility choices and behaviours.

Mobility

In the course of the past few years interest in sustainable mobility has risen considerably. The field’s scope has expanded to include smart cities, hybrid cars, car sharing systems and alternative means of transportation such as bicycles and public transport. Along with reducing greenhouse gas emissions, noise pollution and traffic, such means of transportation play an important role in maintaining physical and mental wellbeing.

In Europe, this theme has become of foundational importance as, according to the European Commission, it is in cities themselves that the central challenge of sustainability is played out. By reducing, rethinking and innovating means of transportation, European cities can improve their energy consumption and the environmental performance of transportation, as well as making citizens’ lives healthier and safer.

In Italy, the term was introduced at the end of the ’90s following the promulgation of the Environment Ministry’s Decree “Sustainable Mobility in Urban Areas” in March 1998, better known as the “Ronchi Decree”. Sustainable mobility means choosing efficient and environmentally friendly means of transportation, which transform established habits in favour of innovative tools and solutions.

Manifesto

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development defines sustainable mobility as: “The ability to meet society’s desires and needs to move freely, gain access, communicate, trade and establish relationships without sacrificing other essential human or ecological values, today or in the future”.

Today, sustainable mobility is a model to aspire to, an objective and a mentality that galvanises the best energies, as well as sustainable development and innovation. Because sustainability means respecting human beings and the environment, as well as saving, fostering personal wellbeing and encouraging knowledge.

If you too feel the need for a healthier and more humane environment, of cars that more readily meet your needs and aspirations, and of technologies evermore geared toward improving quality of life, join Mobility Revolution. LifeGate proposes a Mobility Revolution ‘manifesto’. Choose the point you agree with most and share it with us.
