A new study gives high grades to Hunterdon, Camden and Sussex counties for openness in "e-governance," providing constituents information via the Internet.

The New Jersey Foundation for Open Government enlisted the Rutgers University School of Public Affairs to conduct a survey of the 21 counties, ranking to what degree their websites support government transparency.

The rankings released today were based on criteria in five areas, including the availability of contact information for officials, public meeting information and the nuts and bolts of county departments.

Mercer, Passaic and Salem counties were graded at the bottom.
