The Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD) has continued to successfully introduce eServices, bringing the total number of services it offers online to 25. Citizens, residents and visitors to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi can now benefit from an efficient single point of online access to environmental services.

The online portal has been delivering convenient and speedy services and information, as well as offering transactional services. Some of the services that have been offered include fishing and marine licenses, falcon passports and CITES permits. Information services such as environmental laws and regulations; technical documents; announcements; events organized by EAD and publications were also made available online through the portal.

Ibrahim Mohamed Lari, CEO of Injazat Data Systems, said, "The Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi is breaking new grounds in the efficient delivery and easy access to its services through a reliable online platform. Injazat is very pleased to have supported EAD in developing and implementing these innovative eServices that will further enhance the agency’s performance."

“The new set of eServices will also be available through the Abu Dhabi Government Portal www.abudhabi.ae,” said Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Committee (ADSIC). He also emphasized the urgent need to increase the number of eServices offered to the public as this has become the core concern of the Abu Dhabi eGovernment Program lead by ADSIC.

New eServices:

  • Permit Application for Dealing with Radioactive Materials and Sources

This Service allows plants and facilities dealing with radioactive materials and sources to apply and obtain their permits. Permits help EAD monitor the use of radioactive sources and help prevent its dangers.

  • Permit Application for Environment Service providers

With EAD being the authority in charge of developing laws, legislations and best practices necessary for the organization of the waste management sector, it regulates and monitors the provision of environmental service.

As part of that, it is offering this service which allows waste disposal plants and facilities, and other related enterprises to obtain a permit to engage in the provision of environmental services.

  • Registration of Environmental Consultant Office

This service allows consulting offices operating in the fields of environmental and occupational safety in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to register and get accredited.

Registration is necessary to ensure that these environmental consulting firms have sufficient qualifications and the necessary experience to provide such services.

  • Application for New Industrial Facility

This service allows the issuing of permits for new industrial plants and facilities Therefore and prior to the establishment of any industrial facilities, EAD is required to review building plans and decide which studies should be carried out before construction starts after which building permits are issued after all environmental aspects of the project have been addressed and taken into account.

  • Application for Existing Industrial Facilities

As part of fulfilling its responsibility in creating a healthy society and clean environment, EAD issues permits for existing projects and activities in support of the new economic development taking place in the emirate while keeping in mind the preservation of the environment. This is done through the technical evaluation of the sites/plants, establishment of procedures to assess environmental impacts, assessment of the current industrial practices, and evaluation of the sites in line with international standards and regulations and various environmental studies.

  • Application for Non-Industrial Projects

The same standards and environmental concerns also apply to non-industrial projects and facilities, therefore EAD issues permits for non-industrial projects as well. Permits are issued after a thorough technical evaluation of the sites/plants, establishment of procedures to assess environmental impacts and evaluation of the sites in line with international standards and regulations and various environmental studies.

  • Enviro-Spellathon Applications

This service provides a convenient exchange of materials between schools and the Agency to ensure that the Enviro-Spellathon programme runs smoothly. The Enviro-Spellathon is a programme targeting students between 7 to 13 years of age with an aim to increase the environmental awareness of the students and their families.

  • The Environmental Excellence Awards Nominations

This service allows submitting nominations for the Environmental Excellence Awards online. The Awards is one of the Environmental Education and Awareness Division (EEAD) sponsored programs, which aims at recognizing the environment protection and awareness activities carried out by schools, headmasters, teachers and students thus motivating them further.

  • The Environment Competition

This service allows Abu Dhabi schools to register for this art competition, which helps develop student’s creative skills and instills in them an appreciation of the environment. A public exhibition is then held to display the student’s works.

To provide an alternative to those with no access to the online portal, EAD has also established a Customer Service Office. This Office is located on the Ground floor of its Headquarters in Al Khalidya area, Abu Dhabi and is open to the public from Sunday – Thursday, 8 am – 2:30 pm.

The eServices project was initiated in line with the vision and directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, of improving the quality, efficiency and effectiveness in delivery of government services and information, and in coordination with ADSIC.
