  • Bahrain to host biggest e-government forum

    The annual Bahrain International eGovernment Forum this year will be the biggest ever, it was announced, this was published at GDN.

    More than 500 delegates are expected to take part in the fifth edition of the event, at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Hotel and Spa from April 9 to 11, eGovernment Authority (EGA) chief executive officer Mohammad Al Qaed said.

  • Bahrain to host top regional ICT forum

    Bahrain is to host the largest information and communication technology (ICT) gathering for the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region later this year.

    The conference will firmly establish Bahrain's position as the ICT gateway to the region, said Bahrain Internet Society adviser and Gulf Future Business chief executive officer Ahmed Al Hujairy.

  • Bahrain to implement tourism statistics programme

    The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Information & eGovernment Authority to implement the third phase of the ‘Tourism Statistics Development’ programme in line with the requirements of the World Tourism Organization.

    The ‘Tourism Statistics Development’ programme closely monitors the inbound and outbound tourism movement and provides a detailed overview of the tourism sector and its contribution to the national economy.

  • Bahrain to launch e-government strategy for 2007-10

    Bahrain Tribune reported the Bahraini Deputy Prime Minister will officially launch the country's e-government strategy for 2007-10, which will include the Bahrain Electronic Gate project.

    The e-government initiative, which was developed by the Bahraini Central Informatics Organization over the past two years, will be launched at a grand ceremony that will be attended by the Kingdom's President of Shura Council, members of the Parliament, ministers and governors.

  • Bahrain to launch e-Office project

    The Bahrain eGovernment Authority (eGA) is all set to introduce its new e-Office project “Zajil” aimed at enhancing different government correspondences through usage of IT in a safe environment for electronic communications.

    As a first step, the eGA held a number of introductory meetings with various ministries and governmental entities to create awareness about the project.

  • Bahrain to Launch National Digital Platform for Health Facility Management Services

    “This system includes many services, including licensing a new facility or branch, changing the classification of the facility, adding a service, transferring ownership, changing the address, changing the name, and closing the facility or one of its branches,” NHRA chief executive, Mariam Al Jalahma told GDN Online. This week, the World Health Organisation (WHO) opened its 152nd office, in Manama. Bahrain became the first capital in the Middle East to be dubbed a “Healthy City” by the WHO earlier in the year.

    The Kingdom’s digital transformation is part of the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, which was first unveiled in 2008. The country is among those in Asia with the highest E-Government Development Index (EGDI) values, as per a 2020 report by the United Nations. It ranks just ahead of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), but behind the United Arab Emirates (UAE). “The WHO was monitoring the response of member states and what was accomplished in Bahrain deserves to be acknowledged,” said WHO representative and Bahrain Head of Office, Tasnim Atatrah, during the latest WHO office launch on Monday.

  • Bahrain to link 100 government websites within a year

    Bahrain expects to complete the link up of 100 government sites as part of its e-government initiative within the next 12 months, according to a senior executive with Batelco, which will be responsible for the management of the network.
  • Bahrain to Offer Government Services via Mobile Phone

    The eGovernment Authority of Bahrain (eGA) has signed an agreement with Affno, a leading provider of e-Government solutions and Third Wave International, Affno’s Middle East partner which is based in Bahrain, to manage and execute the Mobile Portal project in Bahrain. The Mobile Portal will avail government services to the public via mobile phones, and is set to launch in June of 2009.

    The agreement was signed by Mohammed Al Qaed, CEO of the eGA and Stefan Moraes, Managing Director of Third Wave International, which recently established its regional headquarters in Bahrain after seeing the potential for the information and communications technology (ICT) sector in the Kingdom and the emphasis placed on developing this field in its policies and overall strategies, in accordance with the Bahrain 2030 Vision.

  • Bahrain to process work permits within 48 hours

    All applications for new work permits or renewals will now be processed within 48 working hours, as part of the government’s efforts of making Bahrain an e-government country.

    Similarly, labour and occupational labour complaints will also be processed within 48 hours, Assistant Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulla Al Khalifa has said.

  • Bahrain to showcase 200 eGovernment services

    The eGovernment Authority (eGA) of Bahrain will showcase over 200 services provided in collaboration with the governmental entities at the upcoming Gitex Technology Week in Dubai.

    Gitex 2011 will run from October 9 to 13 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

  • Bahrain to showcase its e-government expertise

    Bahrain will share its e-governance experience at a major international forum in Italy.

    Cabinet Affairs Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Ateyatala Al Khalifa has assigned e-Government Authority chief executive officer Mohammed Al Qaed to attend the International e-Government Forum in Italy. It is hosted for officials that manage the Italian e-Government Authority programme.

    Representatives from the TRA, municipality and ministries discussions concluded with all agreeing on forming a working group to set procedure and standards for the erection of wireless networks.

    The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) Chairman Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Amer along with TRA's General Director Mr. Alan Horne, Mr. Mohammed Mahmood TRA's Director of Technical and Operations and Mr. Basil Al Arrayed TRA's Director of Communications and Consumer Affairs today discussed wireless networks with Muharraq Municipality along with the Water and Electrical Authority, Environment Authority and a representative from the Ministry of Interior.

    The Kingdom of Bahrain added a new one to its work to track people with Covid-19 disease and to ensure their isolation. Bahrain will now track patients through smart wristbands.

    Bahrain announced that it will monitor patients affected by the corona virus epidemic through electronic wristbands with the new service it commissioned. Bahrain Ministry of Health launched electronic wristbands that work in connection with the application it developed.

    Bahrain has helped contain Covid-19 by using digital health solutions and implementing a “robust medical response”, according to a new report.

    Global research and consultancy firm Oxford Business Group (OBG), in its latest report yesterday, has praised the various healthcare measures taken by Bahrain to deal with the pandemic, despite having the third-highest rate of population density in the world.

    Bahrain has won top GCC awards for its e-government services. It topped all the five categories at an event held as part of the first GCC e-Governemnt Conference in Muscat, Oman.

    The unified criminal systems of the Interior Ministry clinched the best e-government project award while the Industry and Commerce Ministry's e-investor took the best e-economic award.

  • Bahrain wins five Arab Government Excellence Awards

    The Kingdom of Bahrain clinched yesterday five awards within the Arab Government Excellence Award, which is organised by the Arab League’s Arab Administrative Development Organisation (ARADO), in cooperation with the UAE government. The announcement was made in a visual celebration held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

    Five ministries and governmental institutions won the awards. They are the Health Ministry which won the Best Arab Government Project for Developing the Health Sector, the Ministry of Labour and Social Development which won the Best Arab Government Project for Community Development for its “Khatwa” programme for home projects.

  • Bahrain wins top Mideast ranking

    Bahrain came first in the Middle East and 19th globally in the telecommunications infrastructure index, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced yesterday.

    It moved from 46th position in 2008 globally, according to the United Nations' e-Government Readiness report of 2010.

    "Through the regulatory measures, we are aiming to achieve higher Internet reach to the public at affordable prices to enable them benefit from e-Government services and applications," TRA chairman and acting general-director Dr Mohammed Al Amer said.

  • Bahrain wins top UN award for eGovt service

    Bahrain is to receive a major United Nations (UN) award for its e-government services, a report said.

    The country earned second place in the category of Promoting Whole-of-Government Approaches in the Information Age, according to the report in the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

    Bahrain and several other countries will be given the awards during a ceremony at the United Nations Public Service Forum on Thursday, on the final day of the event.
