  • Brunei, South Korea To Step Up ICT Cooperation

    The IT-Cooperative Committee between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Korea for the implementation of e-Government services agreed upon through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last week between the two governments is expected to be established within the next two months.

    The purpose of this committee is to allow working-level officials to decide and implement avenues of the cooperation, which will best benefit Brunei's relatively novel e-Government system and yield as much as possible from, according to the United Nations, the top e-Government system in the world.

  • Brunei: 'E-Health' Project Taking Shape

    As part of a continued effort to push forward the implementation of the e-Government project, "e-Health", another contract has been signed between His Majesty's Government - represented by the Ministry of Health - and Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

    The implementation of the $210,000 consultancy services is expected to be completed within a three-month timeline.

  • Brunei: 'For Strong E-Govt, Up-To-Date Web Presence Needed'

    The government of Brunei Darussalam should regularly maintain its web presence in order to sell the idea of e-government to its citizens, advised senior professionals from a leading IT company.

    They were speaking to members of the press, following an e-Government conference yesterday, themed "Achieving Effective IT Management". The event, organised by international leading IT management solutions provider CA, saw an attendance of around 150 government officials. The company has been involved in Brunei Darussalam's e-Government projects for the past three years.

  • Brunei: 'Use ICT to compete in globalised world'

    "Brunei Darussalam has to effectively use ICT as a leverage to sharpen its competitive edge and not be left behind in the global race. Our development policies should put greater emphasis on investment and financial allocation in this sector."

    This was said by Minister' of Communications Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar in his keynote address at CSPSUBD Policy Forum 2007.

  • Brunei: $5.4m For Religious School IT Projects

    As Part of its e-governance drive, the government has allocated $5.4 million for the implementation of 'Project InTeL' involving 38 religious schools in the country, which will be equipped with computer labs facilitated with tablet PCs.

    The project was conceived through an, e-government project contract in 2002 when the Department of Islamic Studies was still under the Ministry of Education. The project is jointly completed by Alif Technologies Company.

  • Brunei: $950 Million For E-Government

    About $950 million has been allocated by the government for the e-Government initiative under the 8th National Development Plan for ministries and government departments.

    This figure was revealed by Pehin Dato PadukaAwg Hj Hazair bin Hj Abdullah, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office during the launching of the 1st Technology Update Seminar held at the Ministry of Finance.

    This was stated by Dato Paduka Hj Kamis Hj Tamin, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, as guest of honour for the 14th Celebration of Tutong's Public Services 2007, which was held yesterday at the Seri Kenangan Hall in the district. He added that efficient services could generate growth and development for the Sultanate's economy. A stable development relies on the machinery of the Public Services, which can meet the community's requirements and hopes.

  • Brunei: All Systems Go For e-Govt. Projects Of Religious Affairs

    A signing agreement ceremony for three e-Government projects was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs yesterday signalling the start of their implementation under the Ministry of Religious Affairs this year.

    The first project, Network Infrastructure and Data Centre, was the first to be inked.

  • Brunei: Anytime, Anywhere For Alien Investors

    Foreign investors will now have the convenience of applying for business licences through the eMIPR, the online business facilitation service of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources.

    "This `Single Window' or online business facilitation web service provides easy access to services of the ministry and the departments under it, and it is hoped this will attract foreign investors to set up businesses in the sultanate," MIPR's Chief Information Officer Hj Zaini Madaros said at the soft launch of eMIPR website www.bruneimipr.gov.bn.

    The Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Ismail bin Pg Hj Mohamed, said this at the Tutong District Level 15th Civil Service Day celebration, held at Tutong Community Hall, in the Tutong District.

  • Brunei: Awareness Programmes

    The first strategy of the e-Government is to enhance the skills of about 400 I-T officers and staff at the National e-Government Centre. The second strategy is for other officers and staff in the civil service to take part in awareness programmes such as awareness and basic training programmes for users, officers and those without an IT background.

    According to the Deputy Permanent Secretary of I-T and e-Government at the Prime Minister's Office, Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusof, as the Overall Government C-I-O, one of the large programmes implemented since 2008 was the ICT Conversion Programme which was a post graduate diploma programme over an 11 month period where the government has made arrangements with a neighbouring country to send the 2008-2009 intake of 8 selected government officers to undergo the programme.

  • Brunei: BAG To Introduce New System To Upgrade Civil Service Performance

    A System to help modernise and transform Brunei's civil services Human Resource (HR) Functions and operations is to be released to the first group of departments under the Prime Minister Office (PMO) in January next year.

    Implemented by BAG Networks Sdn Bhd, this project is known as the Government Employee Management System (GEMS). It aims to improve the performance of human resources, planning and management of organisation, succession planning, and overall, benefits the human resource administration of His Majesty's government.

  • Brunei: Bandar Seri Begawan, Seoul On Path Of Mutual Benefit

    The recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on e-government between South Korea and Brunei has paved a solid basis upon which they can pursue many partnerships for mutual benefit.

    According to Park II (picture), "The Korea Embassy of Brunei would like to place a special meaning on the recent MoU because it is a follow-up action to the summit between His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and President Lee Myung-bak which was held in June 2009, in Jeju Island, S Korea."

    Also the Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Korea Embassy, he mentioned that during the talks, the two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation between Brunei and S Korea in areas of ICT.

    Brunei's e-government strategies should focus more sharply on the practical steps that need to be taken now in order to reach long-term goals, experts suggested yesterday.

    Concerns about practical measures were expressed by ICT professionals and consultants at a seminar workshop on ``ICT Issues and Challenges in Training and Education''.

  • Brunei: Bill Payment At Pwd Made Easy With eBIS

    The Public Works Department is embracing the digital connectivity to automate processes and improving customer services, including handling customer complaints and bill enquiries via the Internet.

    In its press release, the department said the PWD has embarked on the national eBilling Integrated System (eBIS), one of the e-government project under the Ministry of Development.

    Bruneians will soon be using biometric passports with the completion of a $7.1 million project by the month's end.

    The biometric passport project is a joint undertaking between a local company, Information Technology Protective Security Service (ITPSS), and a German company Giesecke & Devrient (G&D).

  • Brunei: BlinxS establishment marks shift towards open source OS

    The Director of Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) said open source software such as Linux is much needed by the sultanate as it is handicapped by the lack of skilled human resources in ICT and the high cost of operating systems (OS), application software and licensing in its attempt to implement e-Government.

    Dr Hj Kassim bin Hj Daud added that Linux operating system offers alternative solution because of its low cost towards providing software as well as its reliability.

    A ceremony was held yesterday to mark the official handing over of the e-Government Implementation Review Report August 2006, compiled by a team of consultants from Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Company Sdn Bhd.

    The ceremony was held yesterday at Al-Mahabbah Room, Ministry of Communications. The engagement of the BSP consultancy team to conduct the review of the e-Government implementation was initiated and organised by the Ministry of Communications with consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Brunei Darussalam.

  • Brunei: BSP's New Online Registration Process To Enhance Local Business Development

    As part of its continuous efforts to support local business development, Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) recently launched the Vendor Online Registration System (VORS), according to a press release.

    The new system aims to improve speed and transparency of the vendor registration process while complementing the Brunei government's overall e-government initiatives. The phased implementation will start with a rollout to selected vendors to obtain user-feedback followed by availability to the whole vendor community by July 1, 2010.
