  • 'Govt investing heavily in ICT development across Kuwait'

    The government of Kuwait understands the importance of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in the development of the national economy and has been investing heavily for the fast growth and development of ICT in the country, says Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Sabah, Minister of Communications, Administrative Development and Planning. He was speaking at a Ramadan Ghabga organized by Microsoft at JW Marriot Hotel on Tuesday.The minister added: "Our effort toward e-government reinforces our commitment and strategic focus. Microsoft has been a long term partner to the government of Kuwait and has always supported our various initiatives with their quality products and services delivered through their knowledgeable local team.

    System allows students to explore subjects on their own

    e-Services is trending in the region, and Kuwait is not lagging far behind. Some countries have already implemented eLearning in schools successfully. In this interview, Mohammed Amro Maken, CEO of Arab Information Management Services (AIMS) talks about the scope and challenges of eServices in Kuwait. His company was among the pioneers who ushered in the era of IT services in Kuwait, He remembers the first mainframe that was shipped into Kuwait for installation at Kuwait University. It was as big as a room. Amro is also actively engaged in establishing eLearning services and is optimistic about the response from the Ministry of Education. Towards that end he has tied up with SIVECO Romania, gearing for what he sees as a revolution in teaching methods at schools. In his estimate the day Kuwait will become nearly paperless is not far to come. Also contributing to this interview is the Territory Manager of SIVECO Romania, Vlad Zaharia, who was in Kuwait to sign an agreement with AIMS for the implementation of eLearning in the country.

  • E-legislation to speed up law-making - Kuwait Info. Min.

    Kuwaiti Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Sabah said Sunday the National Conference on E-Legislation was a step forward towards the adoption of this system which could help speed up the law-making process.

    "The government started preparing for leveraging the e-services in early 1990s," he said, noting that the government gateway offers up to 743 e-services for applicants and visitors of the website.

    Sheikh Salman made the press remarks following the third session of the conference.

  • IT authority hastens implementing Kuwait's e-government -- Al-Shatti

    The issuance of a decree for the establishment of an IT authority in Kuwait will compel the government to hasten remaining steps for the implementation of the e-government, said Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Ismaeel Al-Shatti on Wednesday.

    Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), he said, "The establishment of the IT authority is one of the basic requirements allowing our Singaporean partners to help Kuwaiti in implementing the e-government." He added that his visit to Singapore was to complete negotiations over the establishment of this authority for which the decree had been issued two weeks ago, as well as to follow up requirements for launching the e-government.

  • Kuwait commended on its IT development efforts

    Kuwait's efforts to develop systems and standards and applications for telecommunications purposes, such as the launching of its e-government portal, are to be highly commended, said head of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Hamadoun Toure, at an IT meeting here on Thursday.

    Addressing The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), being held here today, Toure praised the work being done in Kuwait by the Central Apparatus for Information Technology (CAIT) in promoting the merits of telecommunications and IT services among the populace.

  • Kuwait Information Minister stresses attention to e-legislation conference

    Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah said on Monday Kuwait's political leadership attaches much attention to, and pins many hopes on, a national e-legislation conference due here on June 9.

    Speaking at a joint news conference with the general coordinator of the conference, MP Yaqoub Al-Sanea, the minister said: "The political leadership attaches much attention to the two-day conference, while legislative, executive and judicial bodies count on it to attain a quantum leap towards the e-government project." He voiced much happiness both legislative and executive authorities will meet together during the conference to be held under the aegis of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

  • Kuwait makes progress in Global ICT Competitiveness report -- CSO

    Kuwait has moved up 13 positions to 62th place in World Economic Forum's Global Information and Communications Technology report 2012-2013, the Kuwaiti Central Statistical Office (CSO) announced Sunday. In a press statement, CSO hailed the remarkable progress in Kuwait's rank in the report as a clear evidence of upgrade of Kuwait information and telecommunications technology sectors.

    It noted that the electronic and field census of the country's population, buildings and institutions for 2011 has played an important role in the change of Kuwait's rank.

    In cooperation with Ministry of Telecommunications, the CSO has updated all data related to information and telecommunication sector in Kuwait and was sent to all relevant international organizations.

  • Kuwait Municipality offers more e-services

    Kuwait Municipality is eager to provide more e-services to citizens, a senior municipal official said here Monday.

    The move comes at the behest of Minister of Electricity and Water and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim, Assistant Director General of Kuwait Municipality for Control and Inspection Ghassan Al-Thaqeb said in news remarks.

    Minister of Communications and Minister of Health Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah underlined Thursday that State of Kuwait is making serious and well studied strides for putting the e-government in action.In a speech delivered during a Ramadan celebration organized by the Microsoft Company, he said the e-government is the first step for the "Electronic Kuwait" that could completely rule out paper work and traditional procedures.He said that during his latest visit to the American Microsoft headquarters he briefed officials on the experience of the Ministry of Health in the e-applications sphere.Kuwait, he said, has most elements required for success in the e-field foremost being the wide use of computers and communication infrastructures.He stressed that optic fiber networks would be installed in 36 areas with second phase to be completed in the remaining Kuwaiti areas.

  • Kuwait top MP urges speeding up application of e-legislation system

    Speaker of the National Assembly Ali Fahad Al-Rashed highlighted the urgency of applying the integrated e-legislation system.

    Announcing the recommendations of the National Conference on E-Legislation on Monday, Al-Rashed said the conferees agreed to send a cable of gratitude to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for patronizing the conference and attending its opening session.

    Similar cables will be sent to HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, he said.

  • Kuwait University wins Arab E-government Excellence Award

    Kuwait University (KU) won the E-Government Excellence Awards, member of Pan Arab Excellence Awards Academy, the university has unveiled.

    In a press statement, the KU Spokesperson Faisal Maqseed said the KU official Twitter account, is run Electronic Publishing Section, won the best interactive platform of the category of official institutions and agencies' websites in Kuwait.

  • Kuwait''s Central Agency for IT, gov''t bodies honored at Tatweej Academy

    Director-General of Kuwait's Central Agency for Information Technology Abdullateef Al-Suraie praised here late Saturday Tatweej Academy for Excellence Awards in the Arab Region for its efforts and appreciation for its honoring the agency with Golden Order of Merit for Leadership award and the honoring of four other Kuwaiti governmental bodies with e-Government Shield awards.

    This came in a statement by Al-Suraie to KUNA following a ceremony held Saturday evening by Tatweej and the e-government authority shield contest organization in its fourth session under the auspices and in presence of Hussain Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality.

  • Kuwaiti gov't collects charges easily online

    Up to KD 15 million worth of fees and fines were collected as a result of finalizing bureaucratic work via Kuwait's e-government website last year, said a Kuwaiti official here.

    Director General of the Central Agency for Information Technology Center Abdul Latif Al-Suraya told KUNA on Tuesday said this amount of paid money also covered various paper work for individuals and institutions.

    Number of government services, provided online, has increased to more than 800, in addition to 200 others, available on smart phones, Al-Suraya added.

  • ‘Aim for digital society’; ‘Kuwait 2035 Vision’ goals targeted

    Fitch Solutions, a credit ratings agency, stated that the technology company BMI recently determined the value of information and communication technology infrastructure projects in Kuwait at a value of USD 27.6 billion, as part of the bidding stages to implement the “New Kuwait 2035” vision, reports Al-Anba daily. It indicated that the long-term development plan for Kuwait aims at transforming the country into a digital society, and will lead to spending USD 17.6 billion on digital transformation between 2022 and 2027.

    In its report, the agency highlighted the importance of integrating advanced information and communication technology, such as the Internet, automation, cloud services, and smart city solutions in infrastructure projects. It stressed the importance of pursuing partnership between the public and private sectors in these areas, indicating that Kuwait hosted major companies in the field of technology, such as Oracle, Microsoft and Google Cloud. The report explained that the “Oracle” project in Kuwait, worth USD 250 million, aims to integrate and maintain the medical information system for military health care in the country, and to enhance medical services in the country.

  • Arab Countries: Arab Forum Activities of E-government launches Sunday in Sharam Al-Sheikh

    Sharam Al Sheikh City will witness on Sunday the launch of the Arab Forum of the ongoing E-government under the slogan “the Road to Sustainable Development” which will be under the patronage of the engineer Shareef Ismael, Prime Minister of Arab Republic of Egypt. This forum will be held from 23 to 25 of April in the Maritim International Conferences Hall with a joint effort between Akhbar Al-Youm Foundation and Nouf Expo Company from Kuwait in addition to the Arab Organization for Administrative Development (ARADO) which is one of the specialized organizations of the Arab League. The Forum brings together many of the leaderships of E-Government programs and Information Technology and communications from Arab Countries in addition to specialized Arab and International foundations and companies. It is worth mentioning that Yasser Al-Kadi, Minister of Communications and Major General Khaled Fouda governor of South of Sinai as well as a gathering of senior Arab officials will participate in the opening of this forum.

  • Controversy in Kuwait over biometric finger-scanning

    Public sector employees in Kuwait will start signing in and out electronically from October 1 to ensure their punctuality and compliance with official working hours.

    The Kuwait Civil Service Commission (CSC) had issued an edict making biometric finger-scanning compulsory in the public sector, according to Al Anba newspaper.

    State ministries, government departments and public institutions have finalised all preparations to implement the biometric procedures, urging their personnel to comply.

    Secretary General of Kuwait Electronic Prize Manar Al-Hashash said on Sunday the Kuwaiti electronic projects vying for the The World Summit Award (WSA) for 2009 have impressed members of the arbitration panel.   • KNET partners with Gemalto to strengthen Kuwait's on-line transaction security

    Gemalto has been selected by KNET, Kuwait’s national shared electronic banking service company, and jointly owned by 11 Kuwait’s banking institutions, to supply its confirm authentication server.

    Gemalto’s solution generates one-time passwords for online authentication, enabling millions of safe etransactions in the country via the KNET epayment gateway and delivering a step change in fraud protection. The secure platform is highly customisable and it can support a wide range of authentication and signing methods. Starting with SMS OTP, it will ultimately enable banks to expand towards Gemalto Mobile Protector and Secure Messenger solutions.

    Kuwait has worked out plans for upgrading data systems matching international standards in all sectors of the Health Ministry, a Kuwaiti official said.

    Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health Dr. Ibrahim Al-Abdulhadi said his ministry was keen on promoting the applications of the electronic health systems at its departments.

    Kuwait Airways official website www.kuwaitairways.com has attained the award and “Shield for E-Government Websites for 2014”, as well as the certificate of “Golden Excellence for Structural Creativity”. The recognition was attained during the activities of the fifth Session of the ‘Arab E-Government Award’ which is granted by the Academy of Excellence Awards in the Arab region, based in Dubai, and under the supervision of the Economic and Social Commission for East Asia, affiliated with the UN.

    In a statement Rasha Abdulaziz al Roumi, Chairperson/Managing Director, Kuwait Airways stated that the technological achievement at the level of international and regional establishments was an honour for staff of the national carrier as well as a great recognition. She pointed out that Kuwait Airways website was assessed by specialised committees for proficiency and creative elements. Kuwait Airways had possessed the technical and commercial characteristics that enabled it to win the certificate of “Golden Distinction”.
