Event in conjunction with October 11-12 Fourth Annual National Conference

Today the non-profit eHealth Initiative (eHI) announced the call for nominations for its First Annual Improving Healthcare Quality through Information and Information Technology Awards. The deadline for submitting nominations is August 15, 2007. The awards will be presented in Washington on October 10 at an awards dinner kicking-off eHI's Fourth Annual National Conference: Policies and Best Practices at the National, State and Local Levels for Improving Health and Healthcare through Information and Information Technology taking place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center October 11-12.

"We're excited about this first-of-its-kind awards program which recognizes and encourages leadership and collaboration among organizations and individuals that leverage information and IT to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare," said eHI Chief Executive Officer Janet Marchibroda. "Leadership, collaboration and willingness to share best practices with others is critical to improving health and healthcare through health IT."

The award selection criteria is based on the eHealth Initiative's mission and values as well as the principles, strategies and best practices identified by eHI's Blueprint for Improving America's Health and Healthcare through Information and Information Technology which will also be unveiled at the annual conference. The Blueprint report findings will represent consensus among the multiple stakeholders in healthcare, on a shared vision, set of principles, policies and strategies for improving health and healthcare through information and IT.

Four awards will be presented that relate to key components of the eHI Blueprint:

  • Engaging consumers through health IT and health information exchange
  • Aligning incentives with the use of health IT and health information exchange
  • Transforming care delivery through health IT and health information exchange
  • Improving population health through health IT and health information exchange

Hundreds of participants are expected to attend these events from all sectors of healthcare including clinicians, consumers, employers and healthcare purchasers, health plans, healthcare IT organizations, hospitals and other providers, laboratories, pharmacies, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, public health agencies, state and regional leaders, and federal policymakers.
