The national award, instituted by the Union government, would be presented to the Chhattisgarh government’s food, civil supply and consumer protection department at the 12th national conference on e-governance to be held in Goa tomorrow.
The state has been awarded in the category of excellence in government process re-engineering. The department was selected for the national award for fully computerising the civil supply system across the state. Among other features, the system will provide automatic calculation and release of monthly allotment of public distribution system (PDS) schemes to 10,400 fare price shops.
It would also provide the receipt of demand draft and issue of delivery order and truck challan to fare price shops to deliver PDS commodities from civil supplies corporation distribution centres, besides total stock management with online receipt and issue of PDS commodities at corporation godowns.
The service related to tracking trucks carrying PDS commodities using GPS technology is under pilot run. For a fare price shop owner, SMS alerts would be provided regarding allotment details.
Information would be available on the web for public access — in terms of village, ward and fare price shops, detailed individual ration card holders along with his name, father’s name and type of ration card; allotment details on 10,400 fare price shops.
The project is fully operational throughout the state and covers 120 corporation warehouses, 16 district manager’s offices of the corporation, 16 food controller’s offices, corporation headquarters, Directorate of Food and Secretariat of Food.
The department is considering covering all the 10,400 fare price shops using mobile-based application for future expansion.
Last year too, the department was adjudged the best e-governed department in the country for making the entire operation of civil supply and rice procurement in the state online.
In March 2007, the state government took up the task of computerisation of its civil supply department and the entire process was successfully completed in January 2008.
