Transforming Government since 2001
The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems(CCTNS) project is all set to cover nearly 14,000 police stations and 6000 other police offices across the country in an ambitious attempt to facillitate real time intelligence sharing among central and state agencies. At a proposed cost of Rs 2000 crore budgeted in the 11th five year plan, the Network will be implemented as a Mission Mode project.

Speaking to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Ajay Maken said, "This project, which is proposed to be implemented as a Mission Mode Project, aims at creating a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing efficiency and effectiveness of policing at police station level through adoption of principles of e-governance by creation of a nationwide networked infrastructure for evolution of IT-enabled state-of-the-art tracking system around 'investigation of Crime and detection of criminals'."

Across the country, a total of 13,960 police stations will be linked under the hi-tech project which aims at instant and efficient information sharing among state police and central security agencies about crime and criminals. The Centre has already released about Rs 182.9 crore for the purpose.

Uttar Pradesh will be the largest beneficiary of the project with 1464 police stations of the state slated for coverage and work seems to be progressing with Rs 17.84 crore already released to the state till date.
