A state government release stated that the state has made electronic tendering the norm for all tenders above Rs 10 lakh in value. “A total of 72,000 such e-tenders having a cumulative value of Rs 68,000 crore in project worth have been floated till 31 March, 2014.
Cities like Mumbai will be the focus in the state where changing and evolving technology trends will be used for improving service deliveries under a ‘Smart City Initiative’ being undertaken by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO). CIDCO intends to use close circuit television cameras (CCTVs), ANPR, GIS, linking of traffic, parking, public transport databases, sensors capturing and displaying climate and pollution data for making Mumbai a smart as well as safe city.
Importantly, the state that has a sizeable ‘Marathi’ speaking population, was able to develop on an initiative at creating a Marathi centre for excellence under which its emphasis on e-governance has been enabled for dissemination through the native language of the state through the directorate of Information Technology (DIT).
