The civic standing committee on Friday rejected the proposal to renew the contract of the private consultancy overseeing the online system after citing discrepancies in the appointment process.

NMMC's e-governance system includes 31 types of online services as well as the e- grievance system is likely to be affected.

To promote e-based transaction, civic administration had sought for total revamp of its online process during the tenure of its former civic chief Tukaram Mundhe. A private consultancy KPMG was appointed for uplifting NMMC's online presence in public domain. The civic administration had proposed the renewal of the contract as the appointment of the firm at annual cost of Rs 1.64 crore done in 2016 had expired on June 2017.

"The consultancy was entrusted with the task of upgrading NMMC's online services and introducing newer technologies to do business. The committee, by denying to renew the contract, has now raised concern not only about the status of the existing online services but also have left further projects in limbo. The matter will be discussed with the commissioner to determine the next course of action," said additional municipal commissioner, Ankush Chavan.

Projects such as Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) based mapping of properties in the city, CCTV surveillance, smart parking among others are stated to be held up.

Even the daily monitoring of activities related to Clean India Mission is set to take a back seat. Similarly, Rs 22 crore worth proposal for providing integrated IT initiatives approved by general body in August 2017 may also be hit.

Committee questioned the appointment process done last year back and also expressed reservation on the need for spending Rs 66.19 lakh towards salary of the consultants. "The appointment of the firm in 2016 was not presented before the general body. Even in the renewal proposal, it is the pay scale that was not agreeable. The salary being offered to the head consultant administration could hire at least two experienced engineers instead," said NCP corporator Devidas Hande Patil.
