In an effort to uplift technical institutions, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is conducting master training workshops on its e-governance platform. The programme that started in Tamil Nadu recently will be conducted across the country later.
A total of 300 representatives from engineering colleges in Chennai and Coimbatore attended the workshop. The trained representatives are expected to share the information with their neighbouring colleges, thus creating a chain that will connect all technical institutions in the State.
The participants were briefed about the new features on the web portal by N H Siddalinga Swamy, director of e-governance cell, AICTE, along with Sasikant Banjari and Mayuri Indra, software development personnel of AICTE. Swamy said that since the e-governance programme was upgraded and new features brought in, this workshop was conducted.
Around 150 representatives from engineering institutes attended the workshop in Chennai and 150 from Coimbatore. “The e-governance programme was introduced in 2010 and this was the first time the website got updated. The main objective of this workshop is to make the representatives of the colleges aware of the new features in the revamped web portal of AICTE,” he said.
“We explained how to submit applications for approval process for 2018-19, applications for funding schemes, students’ enrolment in PMKVY-IT (skill development scheme), how to implement these schemes in technical institutions,” said Siddalinga. “It was a live demonstration of the web portal. As the representatives will inform and train their neighbouring college representatives, it will cover 1,350 colleges in TN,” he added.
S Balamurugan, regional head of AICTE, said, for the first time the institutes can directly speak to the officials in AICTE headquarters via video-conferencing.
