The much-awaited AMC Smart Parking app is now available on Google Play store. But before trusting it to find you a parking space it is better to know that the data on the app does not match real-time availability of parking spaces.

For example, at about 4pm on Friday, the AMC smart parking app showed that there were only 21 parking slots available at the Navrangpura multilevel parking complex. But a drive to the parking area revealed that the top two floors of the parking were vacant and could accommodate 250-odd cars.

Geetaben (did not give her second name) who was posted at the Navrangpura multilevel parking said, “Currently, there are two floors vacant and we can accommodate more than 250 cars.”

She said that the number of cars parked regularly has gone up from 150 to about 250 following the drive by authorities over parking issues.

Admitting there were glitches, Vijay Nehra, municipal commissioner said, “A meeting of the officials handling the app and the smart city project has been called on Saturday. We will review the issues and sort them to ensure the app works properly.”

Currently, the app does not list all public parking facilities in the city. The multilevel parking at Kankaria is missing, though under the heading of parking in Kankaria the app shows various parking plots at the Kankaria lakefront.

The AMC has in the last four months developed 26 parking plots with a capacity of 2,020 cars and 11,797 two-wheelers, but these plots are not listed in the smart parking app.

The smart parking app was to display real-time information about parking spots and available spaces across the city. The AMC app was to provide information on six malls and three AMC multi-level parking places through the app, which have been listed, but the information is not in real time or accurate.

On Friday since 10 am the app showed there was no parking available at Himalaya Mall, Acropolis Mall, the Central mall had only 14 spaces available, while the same at Ahmedabad One was 848 and Iscon mega mall was 412. There was no changes in the numbers throughout the day.

AMC officials said that for real-time updates they were to have sensors to keep track of the cars coming in and leaving the parking slots. The app was launched under Safe and Secure Ahmedabad project.
