Minister for Urban Development and Housing U T Khader said e-governance system will be introduced in Mangaluru City Corporation shortly. Speaking after launching a host of development works under Smart City Project, AMRUT scheme and naming the Town Hall after social reformer Kudmul Ranga Rao on Wednesday, he said the paperless office, and file automation system will be introduced.

He said Kadri Park Junction Road will be developed and Wenlock Hospital too will be developed. The city corporation has taken all measures to develop Mangaluru as a model city, he added.

Khader said Ranga Rao worked for the betterment of underprivileged in the society. He worked towards bringing in social reforms in the region. The city corporation has taken a good decision by naming the Town Hall after him, Khader appreciated.

He said that Ranga Rao’s Jayanti will be held after holding a discussion with the district administration.

He said Mangaluru has been included in Smart City projects. With the cooperation of the Central and state governments, the Smart City projects worth Rs 1,000 crore will be implemented in the city in the next five years. The elected representatives and officials should work together for the success of the project, he said.

The minister said all those officials who have served in Mangaluru City Corporation for more than 15 years should be ready for transfer.

Strict action will be taken against those who show lethargic attitude in attending to the public woes, he warned.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the Railways has given approval for a railway underbridge at Jeppu Mahakalipadpu at a cost of Rs 24 crore.

The Railways will share 50% of its cost. As the MCC does not have such a huge resource to share, the state government should consider the proposal and start the work at the earliest.

The railway underbridge is need of the hour as it connects National Highway to the Mangaluru city, he said.

“I have already spoken to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on the inordinate delay in the completion of Pumpwell and Thokkottu flyovers. The Navayug Construction Company has promised to complete the work by January,” he said.

The Centre has approved the proposal on six-laning of the road from B C Road to Mangaluru under Sagarmala project. The detailed project report will be prepared shortly, he added.

Katel urged the MCC to provide basic infrastructure facilities in its limits. The district in-charge minister should strive to get at least Rs 1,000 crore development grants to the MCC, he said.

“We will not engage in politics in the name of development. All of us will work for the development of Mangaluru city,” he said.

The Central government has given Rs 185 crore under AMRUT scheme to Mangaluru. All the works initiated under AMRUT and Smart City projects should be implemented effectively, he said.

MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Mayor Bhaskar K, Deputy Mayor Mohammed K, Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer and others were present. ---
