At 7:30 am on Saturday, leader of opposition Ajay Singh received a call from Rewa that his maternal uncle Surendra Pratap Singh had passed away. “I have two Mamas (maternal uncles),” Ajay Singh told TOI. “The elder one lives in the US and the younger Mama passed away this morning. After I finish campaigning today, I will leave for Rewa and return by early morning for tomorrow’s campaign. There is no time. I have to finish campaigning for all 29 seats. The 30th seat is my own constituency and I will have to spend the last few days there.”

Wasting no time, he stepped out of the house to campaign for the party. By 2:00 pm, he had address four public meetings in Umaria and Shahdol. At 2:30 pm, his chopper landed in Singhpur, part of Raigaon assembly seat, which the Congress has not won since 1990. “No garlands, ask the candidate to address the gathering,” he directed district Congress leaders.

Addressing the gathering at Singhpur, Ajay Singh said, “Think what the new government can do for you in the next five years. And also consider what your constituency received from the BJP in the last 15 years. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan made announcements worth Rs 6,000 crore in Maihar and Rs 5,000 crore in Chitrakoot. Tell me if even Rs 5 crore have been spent there. He promised mini smart city in Maihar – have you got the mini smart city?”

He claimed that everyone in the state, including farmers, youth, women and working class, wants change. During his flight from Singhpur to Baronda in Chitrakoot assembly seat in the chopper, the LoP said, “The major issues in Rewa, Shahdol divisions are development works which were promised by the BJP government but not delivered like irrigation from Bargi dam, the Bandh Sagar project and infrastructure. People complain of step-motherly treatment by the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government. He has promised a lot of dreams but his intention of implementing them is far from clear.”

The LoP addressed two more public meetings at Chhiboura in Rampur Baghelan constituency and Babupur in Satna assembly seat. He left for Rewa and his maternal uncle’s home late in the evening.
