Bareilly Municipal Corporation (BMC) is likely to give a facelift to around five-six prominent city stretches and junctions under the Smart City plan. According to civic body officials, city roads connecting prime areas and prominent crossings will be given a facelift that would include overhauling basic infrastructure like drainage network and renovation of roundabouts.

A detailed survey of prominent city roads was carried out recently and the project is currently in its initial stage.

Pilibhit Bypass Road, Mini Bypass Road, Quila City Station-Choupla Road, Satellite-Khurram Goutiya, Delapir Road, Badaun Road and Mini Bypass are among the stretches that are likely to be included under the project.

Speaking with TOI, BMC environment engineer Sanjeev Pradhan said, “The civic authority has been planning to develop and renovate around six to seven prominent city roads and junctions under the Smart City mission. As per the plan, the authority will be working on giving a facelift to the prime locations in the city to make it look better and cleaner. A Delhi-based company had recently conducted a detailed survey of the prime areas and roads in the city to analyze the stretches to be given a renovation. Though the exact number of roads have not been finalized yet, however, it is expected that at least five-six roads will be covered.”

The environment engineer added, “Under the Smart City project, the roads/junctions finalized will undergo renovation which will include basic infrastructure, better roads and drainage system, renovation of roundabouts, installation of street lamps and fountains, plantation, wall paintings and displaying messages on roundabouts.”

Officials at BMC said the civic body has already taken up work of painting city walls, roads and flyovers carrying messages of cleanliness and ongoing Swachh Bhaarat Abhiyan. Pradhan added, “Under the project, we will ensure that the areas that were left out of being painted with catchy slogans and images are covered this time around. The idea will be to make people aware of the Union government’s ongoing campaigns of Clean India and Smart City mission and messages related to stop open defecation. The paintings will be carrying slogans on keeping surroundings cleaner and greener. The project is under process and it is expected to be taken up soon.”

TOI had earlier reported that plans are also afoot to install CCTV cameras at as many as 125 city locations besides installation of around 30 new traffic signals across the city. The projects, which are also a part of Smart City mission, will be taken up jointly by Bareilly traffic police and BMC.
