“Out of 47 works, LED lights are installed in 27 government buildings, Clock tower work at Hampankatta is completed and integrated command control centre work is in progress,” said Mangaluru smart city limited managing director (MD) Mohammed Nazeer. He was speaking in the coordination meeting held by district working journalists association on Smart City project in Mangaluru Press club on Tuesday.
“As much as 2564.3 crore rupees worth 47 works are approved by funds from the centre and the state governments. Two works are completed. Lighting is converted as LED in 27 government buildings at a cost of Rs 1.91 crore six months ago. 52.5% electricity is being saved. 90% investment will be recovered in a year. 1.41 crore rupees will be saved in a year,” he said.
“There are opinions pro and against the clock tower. It has a rare design. The work which is going to be tourists’ attraction was estimated to cost Rs 90 lac in the beginning but is completed within Rs 45 lac.”
“Integrated command control center construction is in progress. 122 vehicles carrying trash will be installed with GPS. 2,000 houses in Mannagudde are given bar code and waste disposal is being controlled by command center. Smart poles will be installed in 15 main junctions in the city. Movements in the city will be monitored by cameras that can turn 360 degrees and connected to police control room. An emergency button in them helps to send message to concerned people,” he said.
Smart street lights
“A tender for LED street lights is completed. All the streets in the city will have LED lights that will light adjusting to brightness in the environment.
A multi-level car parking is planned in 1.55 acres land at a cost of Rs 94 crores. The matter will be decided in board meeting in February first week. Mangaluru was selected for smart city among 40 cities in the country in September 2016. A blue print was prepared through special purpose vehicle. The work began after agreement with Smart City Limited Company in May, 2017,” he said.
Smart City general manager (technical) Arun Prabha and GM Mahesh Kumar took part. District working journalist’s association president Srinivas Nayak Indaje presided and welcomed. Chief secretary Ibrahim Adkastala was present. Bhakser Rai compered the programme.
