Ludhiana has ranked 48 in Smart City rankings in the country. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs published a list of rankings of 100 cities on Friday.

According to information, Agra got rank 1 by getting 73.17 score. Ludhiana got 48th rank with a score of 34.72. The city ranking has been given on the basis of project implementation, fund transfer and fund utilisation.

Ludhiana Smart City Limited CEO Sanyam Aggarwal has confirmed Ludhiana getting rank 48. He said the ranking was based on different parameters.

According to Aggarwal, the projects in Ludhiana are based on funds of Smart City Mission but a number of other cities have included many projects based on convergence. Some cities have used part of funds of Smart City in other projects and shown the whole work carried out under the mission, he said.

It is required to mention that Ludhiana was included in the first list of 20 cities to be developed as a ‘smart city’ in January 2016. Many residents had expected major changes in the city’s outlook. The main projects, including LED street lights, Pakhowal Road ROB and RUBs, Smart Malhar Road and retrofitting of the Sarabha Nagar market, are under way.

Cong seeks probe into ‘poor’ patchwork

Congress leader Parminder Mehta has raised questions over the working of MC buildings and roads branch. Mehta has alleged that patchwork recently carried out on roads in the Old City areas had started coming off. He has requested Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu to conduct an inquiry into the poor patchwork carried out in various areas. He alleged that the JE or SDO concerned was not present when the patchwork was carried out.
