Vadodara fire service to get Rs 7.95-cr tech including AI, GPS, CCTV, sonar system to track vehicles and ensure faster rescue operations
The Vadodara Fire and Emergency Services will soon have state-of-the-art command and control systems incorporated with Artificial Intelligence to protect its citizens not only during fires but also during floods. In a Rs 7.95-crore major upgrade under Smart City programme, the VSFS will have a myriad of technological features at its fire stations as well as vehicles in a bid to ensure a faster, better, incorruptible, and more efficient system to make Vadodara safer.
The programme started in February was put on hold due to Covid-19 pandemic. Restarted mid-September, the project will take about 3-4 months to complete. "AI-based Vehicle Launching System to be installed at the Command and Control Centre will feature advanced speech-to-text, correct noting down of information and address so that requisite manpower and vehicles can be deployed," said Manish Bhatt, IT officer for VMC.
GPS in vehicles will eliminate need for drivers to ask for directions, wasting time. In-charge Chief Fire Officer Parth Bhrambhatt said this system could later be integrated with traffic police to make sure fire department gets open signals and clear roads to reduce time of arrival.
Firefighting vehicles and water tankers will be fitted with water-level sensors that will show officials whether they are filled to capacity at time of deployment.
Installation of CCTV cameras on the front and back of fire tenders will not only aid VSFS in deploying more personnel and ensure safety of firefighters, but also help post-incident review of operations. The control room will get a live feed from the cameras. Civic officials have also decided to install a sonar-based water-level tracking system on bridges of the Vishwamitri. Bhatt said this is a necessary as Vadodara is a flood-prone city and this will greatly aid evacuation and flood mitigation measures.
