The Competition aims to reward cities, projects and ideas promoting the spirit of the Smart Cities Mission under the theme “Building Cities for People”

Kohima, the capital of Nagaland and Agartala, the capital of Tripura, made it to the list of top 66 smart cities in the country selected for the second stage of the India Smart Cities Award Contest.

A mandatory task was set by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for all 100 Smart Cities where Kohima is amongst the only two North East cities along with Agartala to have qualified for the second stage of the contest.

CEO, Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) Kovi Meyase expressed hope that with this feat, Kohima will continue to move towards achieving further Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and towards making Kohima a more "liveable city".

It informed that the India Smart Cities Award Contest was launched by the MoHUA on August 25 to evaluate cities on their performances and achievement of project proposals and innovations.

Meanwhile, a separate update from the CEO informed that the KSCDL successfully organized the 1st Kohima Cross Country (XC) Cycle Race, flagged off the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima Mohammed Ali Shihab A, IAS.

It said that this is part of the continuation of the India Cycles for change challenge which is an initiative of the MoHUA to create a National Cycling Revolution across the country in the wake of Covid -19.

The Prizes were sponsored by Krank Hub, Pusa Printing Press, Aravalli Enterprise and Manom Wallim, DSP Traffic. Kevilebo Zhotso (13 Minutes) bagged the first position, followed by Yamet Leinak (16 Minutes) and Avitu Casavi (16 Minutes 7 secs) in second and third place respectively.

The prizes were handed over to the cyclists by RD Peseyie, the Secretary of Jotsoma Village Council.
